Ran across this site today to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest paperdoll chain. So how could we not do it for Woogie Wednesday? We’ll be working on them this week and post them next Wednesday. Want to join us? Click here for your print out and start creating. Would love to see what you come up with!!

blue portrait
May 29th, 2013

Today we took a sketch that the Woog drew a few weeks back that I really loved and made a mixed media painting.

We talked about Picasso’s Blue Period for inspiration.

Laying out our drawing and materials on canvas:

The finished product:

I made a tobacco stick frame from my grandparent’s farm and now it’s on permanent display in the dining room:

May 28th, 2013

Back by popular “demand” Woogie Wednesdays in some sort of fashion will be back this summer and we’ll have a little help from a new set of hands. Not sure if we’ll be doing a project every Wednesday or work on one throughout the week and post on Wednesdays but check in every Wednesday this summer! “Spa-art” party
July 11th, 2011

We did out Woogie Wednesday on Thursday last week but I’m just now getting to post about it. I invited the Woog to a “spa-rt” (spa + art) party. I made her this invitation:

Afterwards, she made me this (I love her cucumber):

I somewhat decorated my bedroom all spa like, had mood lighting and music planning (mainly the new Selena Gomez album she downloaded earlier in the day). We touched up our hair from a few weeks ago, put on masks, put cucumbers on our eyes and painted our tone nails. I went with red and she went with red, white and blue.

Afterwards we finished it all up with a relaxing sketching session which we drew portraits of each other during our “spa-rt.”

Here’s her’s of me:

Here’s mine of her:

Hair Dyeing
June 22nd, 2011

Finally a Woogie Wednesday to post. Our projects together this summer have been abandoned or on going but today we did a short project. We dyed our hair. We previously tried Kool-Aid but it pretty much all rinsed out afterward so we went with semi-permanent color. She went with pink and I went with purple. Unfortunately (or fortunately as a 30 something mother of 2) my purple bangs are more subtle and don’t really show up in a photograph.

The goop:

The end result:

Not a bright as she wanted but I wasn’t going to bleach her hair and I didn’t want to leave it on too long so this will have to do and will hopefully be gone buy the time school starts.

Thing 1, I mean Ocee’s hair on the other hand took the color really well!

Just kidding. He’s such a good sport to entertain & put up with us all!

tie-dye fun
June 3rd, 2010

A tie-dye kit was in the “summer fun kit” I gave the Woog at the end of the year and told her she’d get one at the end of every school year to keep her busy all summer. She’s been wanting a tie-dyed dress for a while, so yesterday we made one. The colors on the shirt and hat turned out really vibrant, but the dress wasn’t as bright and I wished it would be. I’m sure the fabric type had something to do with it.

starry night
March 24th, 2010

This week, the hero of the week in the Woog’s class is Vincent van Gogh, so we did a little Woogie Wednesday project to learn more about him. Starry Night is my favorite piece of his (and the Woog’s too!) so we took the project outside and used sidewalk chalk to recreate the work on the deck.

In progress:

*I’m still having some blog issues since moving this entire site over to WordPress so bare with me. The comments are wacky at the moment and hopefully I will be able to get them all squared away and acting right again.

What do you do when your friend breaks your favorite blue plastic headband at rest time? You make a peacock – and that’s what we did!

The Woog was so upset when I picked her up from school yesterday but luckily we turned that frown upside down and made a Woogie Wednesday project out of the apparently catastrophic event:

Snow Day Project
February 2nd, 2010

It’s Tuesday, but I’m posting a Woogie Wednesday/Weekend today. It was a snow day so the Woog wanted to work on a project for her teacher so we made a snowman together.

Here’s what we started with:

And the finished product:

She’s very excited to give it to Mrs. M. tomorrow!
