tie-dye fun
June 3rd, 2010

A tie-dye kit was in the “summer fun kit” I gave the Woog at the end of the year and told her she’d get one at the end of every school year to keep her busy all summer. She’s been wanting a tie-dyed dress for a while, so yesterday we made one. The colors on the shirt and hat turned out really vibrant, but the dress wasn’t as bright and I wished it would be. I’m sure the fabric type had something to do with it.

starry night
March 24th, 2010

This week, the hero of the week in the Woog’s class is Vincent van Gogh, so we did a little Woogie Wednesday project to learn more about him. Starry Night is my favorite piece of his (and the Woog’s too!) so we took the project outside and used sidewalk chalk to recreate the work on the deck.

*I’m still having some blog issues since moving this entire site over to WordPress so bare with me. The comments are wacky at the moment and hopefully I will be able to get them all squared away and acting right again.

peacock
March 11th, 2010

What do you do when your friend breaks your favorite blue plastic headband at rest time? You make a peacock – and that’s what we did!

The Woog was so upset when I picked her up from school yesterday but luckily we turned that frown upside down and made a Woogie Wednesday project out of the apparently catastrophic event:

Snow Day Project
February 2nd, 2010

It’s Tuesday, but I’m posting a Woogie Wednesday/Weekend today. It was a snow day so the Woog wanted to work on a project for her teacher so we made a snowman together.

Here’s what we started with:

And the finished product:

She’s very excited to give it to Mrs. M. tomorrow!

Ice Ornaments
January 8th, 2010

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to get back on track with making art with the Woog. It is freezing here and it snowed so we probably won’t venture out for a few days. Yesterday morning we did a quick project and made ice ornaments. She used a collection of colored beads, paper and glitter while I mixed together some previous work illustrations.

One last piece of art to wrap up the countdown. This has been in my sketchbook for a while and thought it was a perfect piece for this little series.

Tomorrow is THE day!!

2 days to go!
August 12th, 2009

The Woog’s allergies finally caught up with her today so she’s been resting all afternoon so I decided to do a quick piece on my own.

Tomorrow: Art for 1 day to go!

3 days to go!
August 12th, 2009

Knowing my work, you should have expected an alphabet so that’s what we did today. The Woog wrote her alphabet and I used her letters in this design.

4 days to go!
August 10th, 2009

Picked some veggies in our garden today and decided to make a school picture of them all. I took the picture, printed it out and let her draw on that then overlayed her image onto the photograph. She decided to name all the kids (veggies) in her class (totally made up of course):

l to r: Mrs. M., (top row) Walker, Rexie (Principal’s son), Kate, Taylor, Principal, (bottom row) Malone, John, Luke

You can take a look at my quick one here.
