Unicorn
March 11th, 2009

It’s Wednesday and we stayed in today so we had time for a Woogie Wednesday project. We finally got around to making a unicorn (since we abandoned our one from before) and these were the parts we used (plus a few more small add-ons later):

She did all the “rainbow” painting and I did the embellishments. It turned out to be more of a pegasus than a unicorn. When it all dries she will put it in “her studio.”

I am special
February 25th, 2009

Finally, a snippet of what we worked on last week. Last Thursday it was the Woog’s turn for a “I am special” board at Mother’s Day Out. The Parents put them together and then the kids share it with their friends to learn more about them. This is just a small area of the board since it included pictures of friends and family members and I don’t want to post their images online without their knowledge. She did help a little with the board but mainly helped with the art direction of it all. I think it turned out really cute and will be a great keepsake for her. I think it kind of scared the other mothers into thinking that they had to do the same. I’m going to get in so much trouble when the Woog starts doing science projects!

Today’s WW didn’t really happen because she found an old toy she had forgotten about and played with it ALL morning. Maybe next week!

We did work on a Woogie Wednesday yesterday, but didn’t finish it until last night and she took it to school with her today. I’ll try and show it if she brings it all home.

Still working on the new room. Just need to finish up some painting, trim work and hand some pictures. You can see her desk area in the mirror that still needs to be painted and fixed up.

A New Room
January 28th, 2009

We’re working on a new room for the Woog today that will turn into a Woogie Weekend I’m sure. We got new flooring put down last week and we moved her room over to my old office so she could get new furniture and have more room to play and grow (even though our moms are thinking it’s because it’s time for a new baby – and they would be so totally WRONG!). We wanted to get her moved and settled before she starts kindergarten in the fall so she won’t have a new room and school to get adjusted too at the same time. I’ll continue the room redo over the weekend.

Self Portraits
January 7th, 2009

The Woog and I worked on self portraits today and she decided she looked like me so she would just draw and paint what I did for myself (she doesn’t where glasses though but how cute would she be if she did!). I taught her about sketching out what she wanted to do and then translating the sketch to the canvas freehand. She really has the process down. When painting I had her experiment with different brush sizes to show her how to get thinner lines. Now they are dry and she has them displayed in “her” studio (area).

Christmas 2008
December 11th, 2008

WARNING: If you are expecting a handmade gift from the Woog this year, wait until after Christmas to read this post!

We haven’t done and official Woogie Wednesday in quite a while so yesterday we devoted the entire day to it. We worked on Christmas gifts for the Woog. Next Wednesday we’ll do some baking for her gifts too since she loves to cook. We started out making gift tags, so she drew a snowman and wrote her name:

Then I scanned it into the computer, resized it and printed it out (I’m only using yellow paper because it was left in my printer from our Christmas Cards) and got all the supplies together:

Then I let her rub her pencil around the entire back for the transfer:

Then I transfered her snowman and name and carved it out while she played with all the carved bits and ended up making a huge mess (so glad this is in my studio!):

Then we inked them to see if I needed to carve anymore:

And them the stamping began:

Then, we worked on the gifts. I found some unpainted wooden frames at Hobby Lobby several months ago and spray painted them with chalkboard paint. Then she signed the back of each one and drew a heart on pink paper and glued those on. Then I made the chalk holder with ribbon. We then took a mini photo shoot out back for the picture, printed those and then she dream on each of the chalk boards before we wrapped them. This is one that we made to keep and I drew on this one:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

My First Vacation
October 1st, 2008

Next week we will be taking our first official family vacation. We’re packing up and driving 12 hours to Disney World and go to the beach for a few days. To remember the trip, the Woog and I made a journal and keepsake box for her first big trip.

I did the cover text as she collected buttons and such to use as embellishments for the week.

My plan for the journal is for us to write it in each night about what we did that day and let the Woog draw what she did/saw and have some room to add photographs for the day later. Since I’m more of a keepsake box person (rather than a scrapbook) we will add little things she gets on the trip like brochures, shells, etc.

Here’s the final journal and box:

And here’s what’s inside. Notice the Snow White sticker, she can’t wait to meet her!!

We’re all going to have a blast and I’ll show some completed pages when we get back!

Pumpkin Junkin’ 2008
September 10th, 2008

We haven’t been doing Woogie Wednesday projects in a while. She’s more interested in coloring pages from noggin. But today we worked on her pumpkin for this year’s Pumpkin Junkin’ It’s a one-winged butterfly, but I’m sure you could tell just by looking.

She painted the base coat and I added painted layers and did the stamping. These are from an assignment I’m currently working on. They will actually be used for backgrounds of small illustration vignettes.
