Pumpkin Junkin’ 2008
September 10th, 2008

We haven’t been doing Woogie Wednesday projects in a while. She’s more interested in coloring pages from noggin. But today we worked on her pumpkin for this year’s Pumpkin Junkin’ It’s a one-winged butterfly, but I’m sure you could tell just by looking.

She painted the base coat and I added painted layers and did the stamping. These are from an assignment I’m currently working on. They will actually be used for backgrounds of small illustration vignettes.

3 minute drawing class
July 23rd, 2008

I’m trying to get a book project completed today so not too much time for a “true” WW project but today we had a 3 minute drawing class. We drew a lion and I roughly sketched out each feature and then she drew each feature in her “sketchbook.” Looks pretty good!

This gave me an idea for another fun project so stay tuned for that. We also have the unicorn to make from 2 weeks ago. It’s sitting on my desk all painted and ready to be junked.

No Woogie Wednesday project today because we’re in Austin, TX. I was thinking we might be able to fit something in but our day is pretty full so we’ll try next week.

Unicorn pieces
July 9th, 2008

We’re starting a little late today because I had a project to finish up and the Woog decided to take a 3+ hour nap so we probably won’t have the finished product to show until tomorrow.

She knew right off the bat what she wanted to make so for the first time, I let her pick out the items for it. The first thing she dug out was a box of pencils and declared that it would be the horn (glad she’s seeing a vision with different objects) and the frame would be the head and the Melissa & Doug puzzle box would be the grass. The star and hardware bits were extra things she just threw in. I’m guessing he also wants to paint something purple. We’ll see how it goes!

Oh, and today she drew one of the best portraits I think she has ever drawn. You can see it here.

uncle sam

Completed! The Woog’s involvement was pretty minimal for this one than it usually is. Since her daddy was home she wanted to play with him a lot which worked out well for this piece since I did a lot of painted detail.

July 4th, 2008

Happy 4th!! We’re working on the base of Uncle Sam and doing this one a little different by using clay (she made the “snakes” for his hair and beard) and painting the body in gouache. We’ll then junk it up from there. Check back later…

uncle sam’s a comin’
July 2nd, 2008

Yes, it’s Wednesday! We might be dragging this project out for a few days since the Woog is going to play at a friend’s house later this morning. In the spirit of Independence Day I think we’ll do Uncle Sam. I thought about this last night while in bed so here’s a sketch done about midnight last night with the only light coming from the tv (it’s kind of obvious I couldn’t see my paper very well!). In the meantime, check out what we did to celebrate the holiday last year.

to the moon
June 25th, 2008

Thanks to Amy’s post this morning I sent my husband and the Woog to the moon. Space was our inspiration today and this is what we came up with, It took way much longer than I anticipated because we kept switching stuff around. I think we pretty much used all the junk we picked out.

Here’s the begining of todays project. The theme is space. We may not use everything here but we’ll sure try. Check back later today for the finished piece.
